MIT Guide to Lock Picking

Ted the Tool

This PDF is a classic and one of the first google results. First, it describe the padlock and the parts that compose it. Then it describe the techniques used to open them and how they works. It is quite dated but the concept are still the same in modern locks. Here for you .

This is site is full of resources and well done videos that help you to understand how the real locks can be open. It tells you what tools have been used in the videos that you see in case you want to replicate yourself (very useful).

Exercise locks

To start your exercises I would recommend to use transparent locks. In this way you can clearly see what’s going on inside the lock and it will be easier to open them.

Once you are comfortable with these, you can start with other more difficult and not transparent.

Tools

Don’t bother buying excessive amount of tools because at the end you will use always very few of them.

Don’t forget to buy the Tension Wrench as it is very important!

There are other electric tools that might work in practice but will remove all the fun.

Now, all you need is practice :-)
